Chestnut Enlightened

Maxim Lyne, RARA resident and gate keeper, moved into the pod a few months ago. He's been experimenting with how to turn locally sourced Chestnut into lighting products.

His designer lighting range, named Castanea, is as sustainable an approach to design and fabrication as one can get. Maxim coppiced the Chestnut from a managed woodland in East Sussex, has brought a load of it back to RARA and is using RARA's space and tools to experiment with the wood's unique qualities. In addition to some fascinating processes and designs emerging from the experimental stages of design, Maxim is becoming quite an expert regarding the material properties of this abundant resource.

Milan design week 2013 will be hosting his products, so please tune in over the coming months to stay updated with Castenea's development into a brand. And of course you could always buy one from us.
