The Long Awaited ABYA Award

Late last December RARA invited architects across the land to enter the inaugural Architect Brewer of the Year Award (ABYA). Architects were invited to brew their own Ale in the dusty corners of their offices and compete with each other at a seasonal party held at the Architecture Foundation.

We pushed it on facebook, twittered it through the trees and sent emails to the most trendy practices inside Hoxton. We got positive replies by those wearing the tallest turn-ups and got a nod from those with the jaunty-est beret's, we were excited by the potential brew off and were brewing our own ale - stonger than ever - to compete with the avant garde.

It seems that our perception of the avant garde was skewed and that the forefront of contemporary architectural practice didn't wear turn-ups or berets! No, the supreme architect brewer of the year award went to Carden and Godfrey with their Crab and Giraffe Ale. We counted the votes, and we counted their shadows, and we multiplied it by two and they still lost to RARA. But they tried.

So, thanks Carden and Godfrey - keep those cherished Churches and Cathedrals alive.

Also, the AOC were there with some pretty awesome mulled wine that kept the spirits high.
