The Mill - Pan(ic)orama

The RARA recruits are four weeks into The Mill project, they've designed and built thirty-odd plywood sheets worth of furniture, lighting fixtures, shelving and they've done some general building repairs. With the recruits gelling well over the past month and working through the night in preparation for last weeks opening, we've seen a great deal of work go into making The Mill happen.

Eoin Horner, Anna Parfirenco, Richard Surrey, Henry Daly, Cameo Musgrave, Federico Ghignoni, Chrisina Gerada and Tom Randall-Page are the RARA Recruits. In exchange for Ale and accommodation they have agreed to convert a derelict Library in Walthamstow into a flexible space run by and for the local residents. They have bred a new lease of life into a redundant social centre. Without the Recruits this building would have appealed only to the very few and is a testament to how beautifully crafted design can make this kind of bottom up approach work.

Although already open to the public, The Mill is set to finish Stage 2 by the end of this month. A gala opening is predicted for the beginning of September, come down and look at what has been achieved.
