RARA's proposal for a Boat Building Colony has been shortlisted for the Meanwhile London Competition!The competition, hosted by the London Borough of Newham and the London Development Agency, has called for interim uses for three sites around London's Royal Docks - derelict industrial sites that will eventually be redeveloped in tandem with the London 2012 Olympic Games.
RARA has proposed relocating to the Pontoon Dock site, and expanding its capabilities to facilitate amateur boat building. The main structure would be a type of Viking Longhouse that would provide accommodation and a workshop, with other facilities including a campsite and an entertainment venue.
The Colony would further test refreshing alternatives to the flawed economic frameworks that we are forced to endure.
